Beautiful watercraft glide across Port Jefferson Harbor on Saturday, September 16 during the 9th Annual Dragon Boat Race Festival. The day begins at 8:30 am with an opening ceremony; the closing ceremony takes place at 5:00 pm. In between, the competition is fun to watch as you root for your favorite local and regional teams as they race against each other in a series of heats.

Spectators may bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the beauty of the dragon boats as well as cheer on the participants. Musical and cultural performances will take place throughout the day. Don’t miss the opportunity to take a break and stroll Port Jefferson’s walkable village, especially its wonderful shops and eateries.

Boaters, watch your approach from the Long Island Sound — large ferries head between Port Jefferson and Bridgeport, Connecticut all day (slow down, too, as it’s a no wake zone all the way). Transients are welcome at Port Jefferson Yacht Club (631-473-9890), Danfords Hotel and Marina (800-332-6367), Port Jefferson Launch & Water Taxi (631-796-4462), and the Port Jefferson Marina (631-331-3567).
