Northport is always a fun boating destination, but it’s extra-special during Cow Harbor Day Weekend on Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21.
The Great Cow Harbor 10K on Saturday is one of the country’s most prominent 10K foot races, drawing 5,000 athletes (and their cheering sections). Afterwards, there’s a 2K Fun Run/Walk for 800 participants. Race proceeds support Special Olympics and local organizations.
After the races, dine at one of Northport’s restaurants or eat in Village Park. Starting at 6:00 pm, take a walk along the dock to enjoy decorated boats (and boaters). At 8:00 pm, there’s a concert in the park — bring chairs or a blanket (dogs are welcome) or listen from your nearby boat.
Cow Harbor Day kicks off on Sunday at noon with a parade down Main Street. Afterwards, enjoy rides, music, vendors, and lots of tasty food until 5:00 pm. There’s a “Crazy Boat Race” to enter or watch at 2:00 pm (see website).
Northport’s village dock offers transient space on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge during the day (see dockmaster for evening and overnight fees), but spots fill fast. Seymour’s Boatyard (631-261-6574) has transient moorings and Britannia Yacht Club (631-261-5600) has transient docks. Check availability and make a reservation before setting out.
