Boaters make their way to Port Washington each June to enjoy a celebration of the harbor and its nautical heritage along with the handiwork of talented artisans.
This year’s 29th annual combined harbor festival and craft fair takes place on Sunday, June 2 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm at the town dock and along lower Main Street in Port Washington.
Activities include art in the park, handmade items, cruising on Manhasset Bay, fireboat demonstrations, kayaking and paddleboarding, a children’s fun park, entertainment, a model boat regatta, an eviro-expo, and a nautical museum exhibit.
Admission to the festival is free (there are fees for the cruises and some games). Wares and tasty fare will be on sale by artisans and local food vendors.
Manhasset Bay Marina (516-883-8411) offers transient docks and moorings. Call for availability — reservations are required. Alternatively, there are free mooring balls offered by the Town of Hempstead’s town dock on a first-come, first-served basis (you can stay for 48 hours). For transport to land, hail the Port Washington Water Taxi on VHF channel 9 or call 516-767-1691.
