Custer Institute and Observatory
The evening sky is quite entertaining on Long Island’s east end, and a great vantage point in at the Custer Institute and .Observatory in Southold.
Institute volunteers provide public tours of Long Island’s oldest public observatory (it was established in 1927) Saturdays from 7:00 pm through midnight, weather permitting. Visitors view the solar system and deep space objects through Custer’s powerful equipment.
There’s a library, museum, and gift shop on the premises.
